Aesthetic
Crowns
& Veneers
Feel confident when you smile.
A confident smile means different things to different people.
The appearance of teeth in the aesthetic zone (those which you can see with a normal smile) may prevent people from taking part in social activities, being part of a group photo, or seeking a job advancement.
At Carter Callaway Dental Group, we have great options to help improve the appearance of your smile when whitening and straightening the teeth (Invisalign) are not enough.
What are Veneers?
Veneers are thin layers of ceramic that are bonded to the front surfaces of teeth in the aesthetic zone. They often extend to the sides and incisal/occlusal surfaces of the teeth to for optimal durability and cosmetic
appearance.
What are Crowns?
Aesthetic crowns are sometimes used as an alternative to veneers for cosmetic reasons in certain instances:
- Teeth that have existing fillings (veneers do not bond well to resin
fillings) - Teeth that have had a root canal
- Teeth that have existing crowns that no longer are aesthetically
pleasing or match the shade of adjacent dentition
Smile Makeover
A smile makeover usually consists of veneers (or possibly crowns) to enhance the appearance of teeth that are seen when you smile, talk, or sing. This may include as few as 2 teeth and as many as 10-12 teeth in a makeover of the upper arch. Sometimes the lower teeth are also included if they are clearly visible in a normal smile. A smile makeover can usually be done in as few as 3 visits.
Step 1
Visit #1 will be a consultation and planning visit. Preliminary photos will be taken.
Step 2
On the second visit, the teeth will be shaped under local anesthesia, a digital scan or impression taken, and temporary aesthetic veneers/crowns will be placed on the teeth.
Step 3
Final delivery and permanent cementation of your veneers/crowns will be completed on the third visit. Final photographs and a digital scan for a protective occlusal guard will also be taken.
We take time
to answer your questions
Take a look through our most frequently asked questions to alleviate any confusion you may have about aesthetic crowns and veneers at Carter | Callaway.
Why would I choose veneers/crowns to improve my smile?
- Very minor soreness of the treated area lasting 24-48 hours is expected. No limitations on eating, drinking, or physical activity are needed.
- Dark stained teeth that do not respond adequately to whitening
(such as with tetracycline or amalgam staining) - Undersized teeth in the aesthetic zone, resulting in generalized
spacing
How do I care for my cosmetic veneers/crowns?
Teeth with veneers and crowns are cared for in the same way as your other teeth. A custom occlusal guard is strongly recommended for night wear, especially for those who may grind their teeth during sleep.
How long does a veneer last?
The average lifespan of a veneer depends on user wear but is likely in the range of 10-20 years. Some veneers may even last a longer before needing to be replaced.
Does my dental insurance pay for veneers and crowns?
Dental insurance benefits vary but often cover a veneer or crown that is needed to replace a significant amount of missing tooth structure. Our insurance specialists will review eligibility and coverage details when treatment is planned.
