What Are Dental Implants For?

Teeth can be lost for several reasons, most commonly due to advanced cavities, non-restorable fractures, and trauma to the mouth. Sometimes a permanent adult tooth may be absent from birth.

Dental implants are a safe and reliable long-term option to replace single or multiple teeth, are made of medical-grade titanium, and are used to replace the root of a natural tooth.

Dental implants are used to replace single teeth or may be used to support a bridge to replace multiple teeth.

What to expect during your treatment

Implant placement is a surgical procedure done in the office under local anesthesia.  Prior to implant placement, the position of the implant is planned digitally using a 3D cone beam X-Ray and digital scanning of the mouth.

A custom surgical guide is created, which allows for precise angulation and depth of the implant. Once the implant is placed, 4-6 months of bone healing is needed before the implant(s) can be restored with a crown or bridge.

to answer your questions

Take a look through our most frequently asked questions to alleviate any confusion you may have about dental implants at Carter | Callaway.

How long will it take to complete the implant process?

4-6 months is usually needed to allow the bone around an implant to mature before it is restored with a crown (prosthetic tooth) that you can chew normally with.

Is everyone a candidate for implants?

Adequate bone volume is needed in the location where an implant is desired.  In some cases, an additional procedure may be needed to build up the bone prior to placement of an implant.

Can implants be used to secure a loose denture?

Yes! In many cases dentures can be secured, yet remain removable for cleaning, with the addition of two or more implants.

Does my dental insurance cover dental implants?

Many dental insurance policies have coverage for implants.  Our treatment planning team will review all policy details regarding implant coverage with you prior to the procedure.
